I grew up with quirky style. I was classically feminine to the core, but you’d regularly find me outside collecting slugs in a jar, racing neighbor boys on my bike, or romping around the woods near my house. Barbies and backyard wrestling matches. Lace dresses and Legos. I’m deeply thankful for parents who never forced me to dress a particular way. My mother sewed me Poodle skirts for Halloween, while my dad bought me Kinnex for Christmas. I was a balanced woman, but thought nothing of it, and loved it.
I’ve been following IMBY for months now, perusing the beautiful collections Sara curates per season. She has an eye for capsule wardrobe garments that mix and match flawlessly. Her heart is to foster intentionalism, not the perfectionist mindset that can easily tag along with our new fascination with minimalism.
When Sara released her most recent fall collection, my eyes were immediately glued to one particular piece: Black Overalls. What a fun resurgence! These particular overalls aren’t quite the classics we all grew up with (and they’re better for it): they have a slight cropped hemline and knotted ties as a fun play on traditional buckles. My new wardrobe favorite (we all have one, okay!?) was ethically made in Brooklyn, New York, by the thoughtful clothing brand Loup.
You see, this is exactly what I adore about ethical one-stop-shops like IMBY: you’re bound to discover countless sustainable brands at once, rather than feel overwhelmed while maneuvering the labyrinth for yourself. Don’t get me wrong. I fully realize part of the joy in ethical shopping can be the hunt for brands that lie at the crossroads of ethics and aesthetics. But, if there’s one thing I’ve learned in this process of shopping ethically, it’s that finding brands you love takes time; and if you’d whisk out your day planner and give it a scan, you’ll probably notice our (limited) time, and how we use it, is exceptionally precious.
This is exactly Sara’s vision and ethos, IMBY’s creative founder: “What if our closets made every day easier? Less is more. We’re all about decluttering our lives– both physically and mentally– to make room for the things we really care about. Gone are the days with a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. We’re dedicated to simplifying your closet (and your life!) without sacrificing style, ethics, or sass.”
Back to my all star overalls. From the moment I opened them, I have not stopped wearing them – only a slight exaggeration. Sara and I joked over e-mails that we both ration how many times a week we allow ourselves to wear them (serial outfit repeater, anyone?) What I love about my overalls most is they’re the perfect pairing of comfort and versatility. These are, hands down, the easiest garment I own to dress up or pair down.
Now, you may have already popped on over to IMBY to give this wardrobe essential a lookover. And I’ll be honest: these favored overalls are absolutely an investment piece. Despite the fact that we often receive gifted items for our blog, we are normal people like yourself, which means: we budget, we save for the pricier items we’d love to own (and treasure them all the more), shop at thrift stores, and drink cheap red wine. And we like it! We don’t have an overflow of cash lying around for frivolous spending. We have to be intentional and wise about where we invest. We also are mindful of reviewing garments of various price points, offering a selection of items we believe you, our readers, can afford. We’ve actually turned down collaborations with ethical brands, due to their high price points. We want to share thoughtful brands with you, but we want the brands we share to be accessible for various seasons of life and budgets.
After receiving a small discount on my IMBY overalls, I personally invested in them for this review. I wholeheartedly believe in this simple, curated, ethical garment marketplace and value how IMBY offers a range of garments between the price points of $38 up to $175. All quality, responsibly made pieces that, with proper care and attention, will surely last you a lifetime.
Overall, I’m exceptionally pleased with my investment (see what I did there?) If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed in the search for garments made responsibly, a curated collection of options, such as IMBY, is a fail proof starting place. And in the spirit of being more budget friendly and inclusive around here, feel free to use ADAYPACK15 for 15% off your entire IMBY order!
Note: Thank you, IMBY, for giving our blog a small discount on this garment to review for this post. For the sake of transparency, we were not compensated for this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are our own!
